David Passarelli is UNU’s Executive Officer. He also serves as the Secretary of the UNU Council and Secretary of the Management Group. He is responsible for advising on overall management initiatives, medium- and long-term strategy, institutional development, legal affairs, and host country relations. Since 2016, he has served as a member of the coordination group for UNU’s chairmanship of the Global Migration Group (GMG).
David has worked with the United Nations University since 2008. From 2013 to 2016, he served as Chief of Staff, during which time he also contributed the research programme of UNU-GCM as an honorary associate research fellow.
Prior to joining UNU, he worked as a research assistant at the Global Institute for Asian Regional Integration at Waseda University. He holds a master’s degree in international relations from Waseda University and is completing a doctoral degree at the Oxford Department of International Development (University of Oxford), where his research focuses on the rights of irregular migrant children. David has published in the areas of migration, political theory and comparative international higher education.
