Operating Unit on Policy-Driven Electronic Governance (UNU-EGOV)

Guimarães , Portugal

  • The UNU Operating Unit on Policy-Driven Electronic Governance (UNU-EGOV) supports the United Nations system and UN Member States in transforming the mechanisms of governance and in building effective governance capabilities through strategic applications of digital technologies. The aim is to contribute to inclusive social and economic development, environmental sustainability, and peace and security by:

    • conducting policy-relevant research
    • building and maintaining research and policy networks
    • translating research findings into effective policy instruments
    • building capacity to localise and apply these policy instruments within and across relevant UN, government and intergovernmental organisations
    • monitoring, evaluating and disseminating the latest developments in electronic governance

UNU-EGOV is an outgrowth of the Centre for Electronic Governance, part of the former UNU International Institute for Software Technology (UNU-IIST) in Macao, China. UNU-EGOV is hosted by the University of Minho (Guimarães, Portugal).

UNU-EGOV commenced operations in July 2014 as an operating unit of UNU Centre. The intention of UNU and the Portuguese Republic is to see the transition of UNU-EGOV into a full-fledged UNU institute.
