Dr. Tonni Kurniawan, a postdoctoral fellow at the United Nations University Institute of Advanced Studies (UNU-IAS) in Yokohama, has recently been ranked among the top 1 percent of researchers in the field of Engineering in Essential Science Indicators from Thomson Reuters.
The ranking is based primarily on journal publication counts, citation data and other indicators from the Thomson Reuters databases. Engineering is one of 22 searchable research fields covered by Essential Science Indicators.
Between 1 January 2001 and 31 August 2011, four articles by Dr. Kurniawan were cited 651 times. The most frequently cited of his papers, “Low-cost adsorbents for heavy metals uptake from contaminated water: a review” was cited 543 times since its publication in the February 2003 issue of the Journal of Hazardous Materials.
At UNU-IAS, Dr. Kurniawan is part of the Sustainable Urban Futures team, undertaking research on co-benefits projects in Indonesia for promoting integrated solid waste management at the community level.
