The International Day of Persons with Disabilities was commemorated on 3 December 2013 at UN Headquarters in New York with the panel discussion “Mental Well-being, Disability and Development”. Dr Atsuro Tsutsumi, Research Fellow at the UNU Institute of Global Health, participated as a panelist along with participants from UN DESA, the World Bank, the Permanent Mission of Japan to the UN, the Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to the UN, the Permanent Mission of El Salvador to the UN and global experts on mental well-being and disability.

The event provided an opportunity to further raise awareness of disability and accessibility as a cross-cutting development issue and further the global efforts to promote accessibility, remove barriers, and to realize the full and equal participation of persons with disabilities in society.
