July 25, 2011 Bonn
The Secretariat of the International Human Dimensions Programme on Global Environmental Change (IHDP), hosted by the UNU Vice Rectorate in Europe (UNU-ViE) in Bonn, Germany, is pleased to announce its first scientific writing contest. Five successful science writers will be selected by the IHDP Secretariat. Winners will each receive a cash prize and be given the opportunity to publish their work in a new IHDP magazine that will be launched in late 2011.
The contest is open to young scholars from around the world (graduate students, Ph.D. students and postdoctoral scholars/researchers). Scholars from developing countries are particularly encouraged to participate.
Entries (of up to 3,000 words) should address a significant scientific topic relating to the human dimensions of the “Green Economy”. While the subject matter may be technical, contestants should seek to write an article that is understandable to a non-scientific audience.
A cash prize of $500 will be awarded for first place, $200 for second place and $100 each for the third, fourth and fifth place entries. The deadline for submission is 31 August 2011. Entries should be submitted via e-mail to secretariat-NOT_FOR_SPAM-ihdp.unu.edu, with “Writing Contest” as the subject line.
