Vilma spent six years gaining experience in different working environments, in particular assisting the chairman of the management board of the company ALGA in Lithuania in the field of shares exchange management and controlling. Prior to her engagement at the UNU Institute for Environment and Human Security (UNU-EHS), she worked as an assistant to the AG Financial Engineering department of the caesar (center of advanced european studies and research) Foundation in Bonn, while studying economics at the University of Bonn, Germany. She is a fluent speaker of Lithuanian, Russian, German, English, and Dutch, with basic knowledge of Farsi.
Vilma Hossini has been with UNU-EHS since May 2005. Vilma is an Educational Programme Associate at UNU-EHS and contributes to the institute’s work within the capacity building and development areas, where she focuses mainly on co-organisation and development of trainings in an international concept. This includes strategic planning and organisation of the risk and vulnerability training programme, PhD Block courses, alumni network and the Bonn Dialogues series. Her work field in particular involves organisational development of the PhD Block courses in Bonn, Germany; Novi Sad, Serbia; and the course in Bloemfontein, South Africa, which is a part of the master’s degree programme at the Disaster Risk Management Training and Education Centre for Africa (DiMTEC). She also supports the section’s capacity building activities with regard to E-Learning and the integration of E-Learning currently into Block course programmes of UNU-EHS and collaborating universities in Serbia and South Africa. Previously she coordinated the organisation of the first Urban Training Programme, which aimed at strengthening the capacity of municipality personnel dedicated to disaster response in urban centres and cities, and assisted in research related issues.
