Dr Torsten Welle holds a PhD in Geography and a Master of Science in Geography, Soil science and Economics, both from the University of Bonn. He has a broad expertise in the field of Remote Sensing, Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and in climatology (climate change issues). His PhD was concerned with modelling of rainfall pattern in Namibia from temporal and spatial high resolution remote sensing data. During his work at the Remote Sensing Research Group at the University of Bonn he was working within the multidisciplinary collaborative research centre ACACIA (Arid Climate, Adaptation and Cultural Innovation in Africa) in the sub-project B7 Modelling vulnerability in Kaokoveld (Northern Namibia) using Remote Sensing.
As Associate Academic Officer at UNU-EHS, Torsten is working on the MOVE project, in particular on development of methods and indicators for vulnerability assessment, as well as implementation and development of vulnerability maps. Besides this he is focal point for geodata and geoinformation within the Vulnerability Assessment, Risk Management and Adaptive Planning Section.
