Biographical Statement

Takeshi Hishinuma specializes in intellectual property (IP) issues, particularly in the context of international law and cross-border business transactions. He has conducted a number of research projects, including one funded by Microsoft Public Trust Fund, and led international research projects, including a Geneva International Academic Network (GIAN) project for which he served as a coordinator, and internationally published the research results. He worked on IP issues at UN organizations, including the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL), and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). Before working in the international arena, he worked for governmental entities including Japan Patent Office (JPO). He has taught IP courses for graduate students as a Visiting Professor at the Nagoya University of Commerce & Business and the WIPO Worldwide Academy.

He holds LL.M.s from Harvard Law School and the New York University School of Law, and a bachelor’s degree in law from the University of Tokyo. He also obtained Certificat en relations internationales from Institut universitaire de hautes études internationales (HEI) of the University of Geneva.
