Dr. Kouadio Koffi Isidore is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the United Nations University International Institute for Global Health (UNU-IIGH).

He holds a medical degree (M.D.) from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Cocody, Abidjan, Cote d’ Ivoire and a Ph.D. in public health surveillance of infectious diseases from Tohoku University Graduate School of Medicine, Sendai, Japan.

He previously worked in West Africa as a public health officer with the Red-Cross of Cote d’ Ivoire and with the International Organization for Migration for communicable diseases control and outbreak response. He provided medical and psychological support to vulnerable communities in stable as well as in post conflict situations (Refugees and IDPs).

Before joining UNU-IIGH, Dr. Kouadio was working as a public health research consultant for Tohoku University in a collaborative project on childhood pneumonia in developing countries, supported by the Japanese International Cooperation Agency and Japan Science and Technology Agency.

He has also conducted public health research in Africa and Asia. He is author of several publications in peer-reviewed journals and has presented in several international conferences. He won the prestigious and competitive Michael Moles Fellow in Disaster Medicine (2007-2009) awarded by the World Association for Disaster and Emergency Medicine during the 15th World Congress for Disaster and Emergency Medicine, held in Amsterdam in 2007. He has good knowledge of the UN system through his active participation in several UNU capacity development events in Japan, such as the UNU Global Seminar-Shonan Session in Kanagawa in 2006; Junior Fellow symposium 2006 & 2008 and other events.

His Postdoctoral research activities at UNU-IIGH are currently concerned with the burden of asbestos related diseases; and communicable diseases in developing countries. He is an active member of the committee currently developing the UNU double degree master’s programme in ‘’Community Health Science’’ between UNU-IIGH and National University of Malaysia.
