    Biographical Statement

    Hooman Farzaneh joined the United Nations University Institute of Advanced Studies in April 2013 as a UNU-IAS Postdoctoral Fellow and continued from September 2013 as a JSPS-UNU Postdoctoral Fellow under the Sustainable Urban Futures Programme. During his Postdoctoral Fellowship, Hooman seeks to develop research patterns of environmental governance and policy implementation designed to tackle global environmental problems in different sectors in cities.

    Prior to UNU-IAS, Hooman undertook postdoctoral research at the Graduate School of Energy Science of Kyoto University. His work at Kyoto University included zero carbon emissions energy system scenarios with a focus on the Middle East.

    Hooman has previously held positions as assistant professor at Azad University and Sharif Energy Research Institute (SERI) in Tehran.

    Born and educated in Iran, Hooman holds a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering and master’s and PhD degrees in energy system engineering. He has 12 years of experience in conducting energy optimization projects and more than 6 years teaching experience in energy science related issues at undergraduate and graduate levels.

    His research interests include integration energy systems study, energy optimization modelling and energy management in transport sector.
