Francis Baert is Project Researcher within the Peace and Security programme at the UNU Institute on Comparative Regional Integration Studies (UNU-CRIS). He is member of the Project Secretariat of the 7th Framework Programme research project EU-GRASP funded by the European Commission (2009-2011). www.eugrasp.eu
He is also a Ph.D. student in political science at the University of Ghent, Centre for European Studies. He was Research Assistant to the UNU-CRIS Director in Bruges in 2007-2008. In this function, he was junior coordinator of different projects under GARNET, a Network of Excellence on Global Governance, Regionalisation and Regulation: the role of the EU, funded under the European Commission’s 6th Framework Programme (including the Mobility Scheme and Ph.D. Schools).
In the Spring of 2010 he was visiting researcher at the School for Global Studies, Univeristy of Gothenburg. In july 2011 he was visiting researcher at Pembroke College, University of Cambridge.
He is the co-editor of a volume on the United Nations and Armed Conflicts (published by ACCO, 2010, published in Dutch). He is currently preparing two edited volumes in English contracted with Springer (one on regionalism and the United Nations & one on interregionalism). He has published articles and book reviews in Review of International Studies, European Foreign Affairs Review, Global Policy, Journal of Common Market Studies, Political Studies Review, Res Publica, Internationale Spectator, ILO Discussion Papers, UNU-CRIS working papers & Wereldbeeld (includes forthcoming reviews).
