    Biographical Statement

    Akira Nagata joined the UNU Institute for Sustainability and Peace (UNU-ISP) as Senior Programme Adviser. Under the over-all guidance of the Director of UNU-ISP, and in close interaction with UNU-ISP staff, Mr. Nagata participates in the planning of collaborative activities implemented by UNU-ISP and the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF), and advises on relevant matters.

    He is currently Senior Policy Adviser of Sustainable Agriculture Division, Agriculture Production Bureau of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) of Japan, and is in charge of (1) promotion of sustainable agriculture and soil management, and (2) climate change negotiation on agriculture sector and land use, land use change and forestry sector.  He graduated from Hokkaido University, where he majored in Crop Science.
