Aki Suwa joined the UNU Institute for Advanced Studies (UNU-IAS) as a Postdoctoral Fellow with the Science Technology for Sustainable Societies Programme. Her work at UNU-IAS includes renewable energy and the related policy issues, with a focus on potential implications of policy transfer on renewable energy technologies.
Prior to her fellowship at UNU-IAS, Suwa lectured at several universities, including the Environment Department of Tokyo City University and the Liberal Arts Faculty of Oberlin University, and as a researcher in renewable policy advocacy in Institute for Sustainable Energy Policy, Tokyo. Suwa is a Japanese national, holding a master’s degree in environmental technology from the Imperial College, University of London, and a Ph.D. in planning studies from University College London, University of London. Her general interests involve social and economic implications of renewable energy development, and interactions between ecological conservation and renewable energy dissemination, with most of her past work being related to renewable policy analysis.
