    Biographical Statement

    Mr. Wataru Suzuki joined the UNU Institute of Advanced Studies (UNU-IAS) as Satoyama Initiative Coordinator to oversee the operation of the secretariat for the International Partnership for the Satoyama Initiative (IPSI).

    Prior to joining UNU-IAS, he was involved in various project activities relating to biodiversity, such as preparing for the Third National Biodiversity Strategy of Japan and the Guidelines for Private Sector Engagement in Biodiversity, holding scientific workshops for the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) with UNU-ISP and the Government of South Africa, facilitating activities for the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) in Japan, and overseeing the activities of the secretariats for the Asia and Pacific Biodiversity Observation Network (AP-BON) and the East and Southeast Asia Biodiversity Information Initiative (ESABII).

    In 2010, he was involved in organizing COP10 of the CBD held in Nagoya in October, as well as the Closing Event for the International Year of Biological Diversity (IYB) held in Kanazawa in December.
