Rama Krishna Reddy Kummitha joined UNU-IAS as a JSPS-UNU Postdoctoral Fellow in October 2013. He is currently with the Science and Technology for Sustainable Societies programme at UNU-IAS with an adjunct affiliation to the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies, Tokyo. His current research aims to understand the usage of social technologies by selected social entrepreneurs in selected least developed countries in Asia and Africa. In addition, he would also like to analyse the role these social technologies play in attaining sustainable development. His research is expected to explore the possible collaborations in the technology and social entrepreneurship fields within and across the selected countries in Asia and Africa. Further, his research also contributes to understanding how sustainable development is achieved using innovative social technologies while addressing social or environmental problems.
With over six years of experience in social entrepreneurship, Rama Krishna Reddy Kummitha is one of the first batch of academicians in this field in India. After attaining his master’s in Political Science, M.Phil and doctorate in Social Entrepreneurship from the University of Hyderabad, he began his career as an Assistant Professor at the Center for Social Entrepreneurship, Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai. Apart from teaching master’s students, he used to mentor students on creating social ventures. He has widely published and researched on social entrepreneurship, social exclusion/inclusion, inclusive growth and human rights. Dr. Reddy was awarded with the Indira Gandhi Merit Award by the Government of India and the Junior Scientist Award by Bonn University, Germany for his academic contribution.
Rama Krishna Reddy is an Indian citizen and is fluent in English, Hindi and Telugu.
