Joint UNU-MERIT/Maastricht Graduate School of Governance Seminar: “Difference in the Rates of Return to R&D for European and US Young Leading R&D Firms”
In this seminar, Prof. Michele Cincera (Université Libre de Bruxelles) will discuss the sources of Europe’s lagging business R&D performance relative to the US, and particularly the role played by missing young leading innovators in high-technology-intensive sectors in Europe.
Econometric analysis of differences in the rates of return to R&D of European and US large R&D firms finds lower rates of return for young leading innovators in high-technology-intensive sectors in Europe compared to their US counterparts. These lower rates of return can at least partly explain why Europe has fewer young leading innovations in high-technology-intensive sectors.
