While numerous university ranking systems exist and exert a large influence on the direction of universities and on the public’s perception of them, the existing ranking systems do not provide the detailed objective information that universities need in order to improve their performance. While there are high-quality sources of such data that support benchmarking within countries, the globalization of higher education now demands data that supports benchmarking across national boundaries. The Alliance for Measuring University Performance (AMUP) has been formed as an initiative of the global academic community to provide data and analyses that will support benchmarking of university performance internationally. The Alliance is a partnership between United Nations University International Institute for Software Technology and The Center for Measuring University Performance.
During this event, the speakers will discuss their motivation for creating the Alliance for Measuring University Performance and the Global Research Benchmarking System. They will also contrast the Global Research Benchmarking System (GRBS) with existing ranking systems and explain what new features it will provide and how that will benefit universities. At the event we will sign a Memorandum of Understanding between United Nations University-International Institute for Software Technology and The Center for Measuring University Performance.
