The United Nations University provides a unique educational opportunity unavailable anywhere else in the world. UNU enjoys an unparalleled position within the global academic community as the only United Nations organ mandated by the General Assembly to grant degrees.

UNU offers a growing range of master’s and doctoral programmes and non-degree courses that equip the leaders of tomorrow with the necessary academic foundations to effectively address pressing global problems. By bringing together scholars and faculty from both developing and developed countries, UNU provides its diverse international student body with first-hand research experience in the heart of the United Nations. Students undertake research that links directly with the work of the United Nations and its specialized agencies, as well as numerous intergovernmental processes. With an expert faculty spread across 14 UNU institutes in 12 countries, UNU is a truly global university in structure, operation and ambition.

UNU welcomes students from all over the world who are committed to the pursuit of peace, progress and sustainable development through research, training and dialogue with a global community of academics in developed and developing countries. We invite you to explore this site to learn more about the unique educational opportunities provided by UNU, and hope that you will find a programme that matches your own educational goals.

Scholarships and Funding

Tuition

Each UNU degree programme has a unique tuition scheme. These schemes vary depending on the programme level (e.g., doctoral or master’s), duration and location. For more information about the tuition fees of a specific degree programme, follow the links provided in each programme description. We also invite you to visit the UNU institute websites, where you will find more detailed information on tuition fees.

Financial Support

Some degree programmes may offer tuition waivers for students with outstanding academic records, who can demonstrate a need for financial assistance. Prospective students should inquire with the admissions office for the programme to which they are applying to learn more about opportunities for financial support. Please keep in mind that financial support is limited and selection is highly competitive. UNU is unfortunately unable to provide financial support to all applicants. Applicants are encouraged to seek funding from outside sources; this may include, home country governments, private foundations and international funding agencies.

Scholarships

A limited number of scholarships are awarded to outstanding applicants. Scholarship opportunities vary for each degree programme and requests should be submitted with the programme application documents. For more information about the scholarships available for a specific programme, please visit the UNU institute website associated with the programme. If you have more detailed questions, please contact the focal point for the degree programme directly. Contact information for each programme is located on the programme description page.
