The mission of the UNU International Institute for Software Technology (UNU-IIST) is to further the development and application of information and communication technology to address the pressing global challenges of sustainable development through education, research, capacity development and policy support.
The institute’s programmes focus primarily on the application of information and communication technologies in four thematic areas: Education, Health, Governance, and Poverty. UNU-IIST takes a fundamentally needs-driven and problem-oriented approach to research and education, continuously working in close partnership with developing countries in order to ensure that its focus and approaches are well aligned with the most pressing needs.
