    The UNU Office of Communications is accepting internship applications in the following areas:

    • Editorial
    • Media relations
    • Digital communications
    • Web development
    • Social media
    • Video production

    Overview and Duration

    Interns will spend 3 to 6 months working in the Office of Communications at UNU Headquarters in Shibuya, Tokyo. Interns will assist with day-to-day office tasks and support the Office of Communications team in researching and keeping up to date with emerging technologies, and digital and communications trends. The positions are ideally suited to those wishing to gain communications and outreach experience both locally (in Tokyo) and internationally.

    Candidates preferably should reside in the Tokyo area. UNU does not provide interns with financial assistance, visa arrangements, stipend or travel assistance; therefore, interns must be able to support themselves in the Tokyo metropolitan area for the duration of the internship.

    Work Assignments

    Candidates applying for internships with the Office of Communications should indicate the main area in which they want to work and their relevant experience/expertise. All candidates should have competent skill sets including:

    • Excellent communication and writing skills
    • Strong quantitative, measurement and research skills
    • Ability to multitask and handle multiple projects
    • Attention to detail and excellent follow-through skills
    • Confident, friendly, outgoing, highly motivated, organized and able to work independently
    • Passionate for all things digital and socially savvy
    • Bilingual spoken and written Japanese / English advantageous

    Desired Skills and Experience

    Interns are anticipated to be college students enrolled in educational programmes or new graduates in areas such as journalism, marketing, communications, media, political science, public relations, web development and/or video production. The following experience is highly desirable:

    • Familiarity with web publishing platforms and content management systems (e.g., WordPress)
    • Experience with editorial and collaborative document revision workflows
    • Experience drafting press releases
    • Experience with constituent management systems and media monitoring
    • Track record of working on web development projects
    • Expertise in video production and video distribution projects
    • Experience with various social media platforms
